I wouldn't go that far, but I would say that the trend is going in the direction that the government has been publicly predicting. Aka - a careful "convergence" strategy is directly in line with bigger trends.
If you could cover it in a future article, I'd love to know how things work in practice in Transnistria with regard to the Russian "peacekeepers".
I have no idea what goes on - are they supplied from Russia? If so how? Do they live separately from the main population on bases? Are troops rotated in and out, and if so how?
No promises Nick - much of that is a black box. But I can tell you I've been talking to people about how it all works. We'll see if something comes out of it :)
There are a few things going on here. Firstly, since Ukraine has closed their border with the region all goods getting imported there must come through Moldova. The second piece is about how Transnistria's economy works generally. Most of their companies do the majority of their business with the EU. So they are actually registered in Moldova.
It'll be interesting to see how the exact implementation works, but in theory the state has all the tools it needs to withdraw the tax exemptions that are in place.
I found the two notes on Transnistria particularly interesting - is integration happening without a fuss?

How are they going to collect VAT from Transnistria?
Hi Chaitanya,

The second piece is about how Transnistria's economy works generally. Most of their companies do the majority of their business with the EU. So they are actually registered in Moldova.
